Bulging, Herniated + Degenerative Discs
What kind of disc issue are you dealing with?
Discs cushion the bones of your spine and help you move. They can bulge, herniate, or change over time. If nearby tissue or a nerve becomes irritated, symptoms may stay near the back or neck—or travel into an arm or leg.
The name on the MRI is useful, but it is not the whole story. We compare the finding with your pain, strength, sensation, movement, and the activities you want to get back to.
A straightforward look at bulging and herniated discs, nerve pressure, and non-surgical treatment options.
Herniated Disc
Inner disc material pushes through a weakened area and may irritate a nearby nerve.
Bulging Disc
The disc extends outward more broadly and may—or may not—cause symptoms.
Degenerative Disc Changes
Discs naturally change with time. The finding only matters when it matches what you feel.
Nerve Irritation
Pressure or inflammation near a nerve may cause radiating pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness.
Disc Pain + Nerve Symptoms
Disc problems do not always feel like back pain.
They may feel like sharp back or neck pain, a burning line into an arm or leg, numbness, tingling, or muscle weakness. Where symptoms travel helps us understand what may be involved.
Bending Feels Risky
Shoes, laundry, lifting, or reaching toward the floor brings on a sharp catch.
Sitting Builds Pressure
Desk work, driving, or the couch becomes harder the longer you stay there.
Standing Back Up Hurts
The first few steps after a chair or car ride feel guarded and uncomfortable.
Pain Travels
Symptoms reach from the neck into an arm or from the lower back into a leg.
Coughing or Sneezing Spikes It
A sudden increase in pressure creates a familiar jolt of pain.
The Flare-Ups Repeat
It settles down, then returns after lifting, travel, work, or one wrong move.
Strength or Feeling Has Changed
Numbness, dropping things, foot weakness, or worsening loss of strength needs prompt evaluation.
Non-Surgical Disc Care
Start with the least invasive care that makes sense.
Depending on your evaluation, your plan may combine non-surgical spinal decompression, chiropractic care, physical rehabilitation, and movement guidance. If a medical or surgical opinion is more appropriate, we will tell you that clearly.
Care begins with understanding the full picture.
Assessment
Match the treatment to the symptoms.
We look at where symptoms begin, where they travel, how your nerves respond, and which positions change what you feel. Existing imaging is reviewed when available; new imaging is recommended only when it may change the plan.
Where symptoms begin and where they travel
Strength, reflex, and sensation checks
Positions and movements that change symptoms
Review of existing imaging when available
Imaging or referral only when clinically appropriate

Care that meets kids where they are.
Pediatric Chiropractic Care
Kids deserve care that feels calm, clear, and made for them.
Children are not simply smaller adults. They move, grow, play, and communicate differently—and their care should reflect that.
Some kids need a minute before they are ready. That is okay. We take time to listen to the parent, help the child feel at ease, and explain what we are doing before we do it.
- A visit that moves at their pace
- Clear answers for parents
- Gentle, age-appropriate care when appropriate
Answers Before You Book
Questions about Disc Issues care.
These are common starting questions. Your recommendations will still depend on your evaluation, history, and goals.
Care depends on your symptoms and examination. Recommendations may include spinal decompression, chiropractic care, physical rehabilitation, and movement guidance. We do not assume that every person needs every service.
It may be appropriate for some people as part of a broader non-surgical plan. It is not right for every disc problem, which is why we begin with an evaluation rather than placing everyone on the same treatment.
Usually not. We begin with your history and examination. If imaging would meaningfully change the next step, we will explain why.
Most people with a herniated disc are first treated without surgery. A surgical opinion may be appropriate for significant or worsening weakness, serious nerve symptoms, or pain that has not improved with appropriate conservative care.
Seek emergency medical care for new bowel or bladder trouble, numbness around the groin or saddle area, rapidly worsening weakness, or severe symptoms after a major fall or accident.
